Why Reline A Chimney?
An open fire and stove are completely Different!
An open fire sends at least 75% of the heat up the chimney with an average of 25% heat to the room.
A stove is the exact opposite! The stove has above 70% efficiency and the only air going into the chimney is regulated by the stove. This causes huge problems with the ejection of gases. The stainless steel liner heats up very fast with the stove, contains the gases and helps ejecting them into the atmosphere.
Even if your chimney appears to be in good working order, it does not help to expel the fumes and can cause creosote build up with wet clay pots in an already poor drawing chimney.
Insulating Flexi Flue Liners
Company Policy Update August 2024
We now only recommend insulating or back filling an entire flue liner when a chimney stack is highly exposed and/or subject to cold conditions, ie, open landscapes, seafront and free standing chimneys, unless otherwise stated by the flue manufacturer.
Our reason for this is high reports of appliances and chimneys overdrawing when heated, and some manufactures reporting that flexible flue liners are burning out prematurely due to extreme heat.
We now only insulate the bottom of the flue liners above the appliances to prevent heat loss from appliance.
If after installation of an appliance problem are reported we can easily insulate the liner from the top if required.
Top Cap always installs a minimum of 500mm solid fuel pipe at the end of each flexible flue liner before it contacts the appliance unless otherwise stated by the appliances manufacturer guidelines. The reason for this is to keep within HETAS regulations to ensure you get the lifespan of your flexible flue liner and stay within flue manufacturer guidelines as not to burn out the flexible flue liner.
